ASOC – A scuola di OpenCoesione is an innovative educational pathway—created within the OpenCoesione initiative—aimed at upper-secondary students and teachers, promoting active and digital citizenship and the civic monitoring of public funding through the use of new information and communication technologies and data journalism.
Drawing on the information and open data published on OpenCoesione—Italy’s open-government platform on cohesion policies—students can choose a funded project in their area and undertake a research activity to monitor the use of public funds and communicate results to citizens, encouraging active engagement.
Schools ranking at the top at national level are awarded at the end of each edition, in parallel with the national prize-giving.
The Regional Department of Programming, as Coordinating Authority of the Managing Authority of the PO FESR Sicilia 2014/2020, has supported the initiative since 28.11.2017, within the Programme’s Communication Strategy.
This support takes the form of informational and organisational assistance to the OpenCoesione Team coordinating the project, to participating schools across the region, and to other partners involved in the initiative: Europe Direct information centres in Sicily and the Amici di ASOC network of associations.
Sicily is one of the five partner Regions, together with Tuscany, Sardinia, Calabria and Campania.
